Qualifications

What qualifications do you need to become a glazier?

Employers generally look for people with experience rather qualifications as you don’t actually need any specific qualifications to become a glazier.

If you don’t have any experience of working in construction you may want to think about becoming a glaziers mate to gain the experience you need to become a glazier in your own right. As soon as you have some experience your boss may be willing to give you some training.

There is a college course called the Construction Award, which would give you some of the skills but remember an potential employer will want you to prove you rexpereince.

An apprenticeship scheme is another way forward and this could be with a building form or a double-glazing firm. There are a lot of apprenticeship schemes available but you need to check that there are some in your area.

If you decided to study to be a glazier then you could look at some GCSE’s in subjects like maths, English and then design and technology. In addition to this some vocational qualifications that Edexcel  offer may also be of benefit.
