Glaziers cut and fit new panes of glass in homes, commercial and industrial property. As a glazier on a normal replacement glass job you would:
• Choose the right glass for the job, for example thi smay be toughened glass or patterned glass for a bathroom
• Take out the existing glass which my be broken, ensuring the tools used are appropriate for the job
• Remove and clean all excess putty and debris that will obstruct the glass
• Replace the new glass and get assistance if required
• Seal around the window with appropriate sealants making sure the window is water tight, secure and level
Normally you would know prior to fitting the glass, the size and specification of it so you can order it cut to size.
You must remember though you may need to make some small adjustments and shape pieces on site using the appropriate tools.
Fitting glass is just one part of the job; you could work manufacturing of double-glazing units, such as PVC or timber frames. Once you have some experience behind you it may be that you want to set up your own business or become a specialist for a company.
